500 Women Scientists will March for Science
500 Women Scientists will proudly support the March for Science on April 22, 2017.
Science touches the lives of every person on our planet and is integral for protecting human health, safety, and the environment. We, 500 Women Scientists, support the March for Science because it is a demonstration of our shared values.
We will march to advocate for an inclusive scientific enterprise, one that empowers and values women, families, people of color, LGBTQIA people, and immigrants. We will speak up on the importance of diversity in science, stand in solidarity with underrepresented groups, and stand up against the policies that promote inequality and discrimination. We will march to set an example for future women scientists. We recommit to reaching outwards to communicate science and to continue to promote science that serves the public good.
Facts, evidence, strong science: these are tools that we can use as a society to continue to make our lives better, and to tackle the biggest challenges — including advancements in medicine, energy and the environment.
Science transcends partisan politics and we all benefit from scientific discoveries every day. The rise in anti-science and anti-fact rhetoric threatens our democracy and hinders our ability to face our greatest challenges. We do not march to politicize science or to protest a single elected official or party; rather we march as a diverse non-partisan group to uphold the role of science in the American spirit of progress, democracy, and prosperity. In fact, science is critical for a strong, free, democratic society.
